Japanese company opens offices in New York and Odense

Invest in Odense cases, Health Tech

The Japanese company I&C has opened two international offices in 2017. One in New York and one in Odense, where they wish to take advantage of the network opportunities and the high level of activities.

The Japanese company designs furniture for the Japanese market. Their philosophy is that quality and design must be high class and at the same time user friendly, whether the users are kids, adults, elderly or disabled.

In December, I&C has opened their new office in Videnbyen in Odense, close to the health tech knowhow and a range of activities that take place in the Sciencepark and Videnbyen which are located right next to the University of Southern Denmark.

Mr. Tsutomu Ogihara, CMO and Overseas Operations Director at I&C explains:

– The knowhow in Odense within health tech is very inspiring. We have already experienced that knowhow, and seen how companies, knowledge institutions and the public sector collaborate. These collaborations are of great value to I&C and for our ambition to create high functionality and at the same time, excellent design.

Danish design

Denmark’s international fame for furniture design has also been crucial for I&Cs choice of location.

Therefore, the company has hired Yukiko Izumi for their Danish department. She is a designer from Kolding Designskole and is now in charge of collecting the knowledge and transforming it into furniture designs.

Invest in Denmark has helped I&C in coming to Denmark and has given valuable advice on e.g. law and procedures that a firm wanting to settle in Denmark must know of. In a collaboration with Invest in Odense and Invest in Denmark, Yukiko Izumi is now meeting with the relevant players in the field of health tech and design: a highly efficient way to enter a new market.

Network: a path to growth

The fact that I&Cs chose Odense above other bigger and more known cities is yet another testament that companies do benefit from being part of Odense’s environment of knowhow and activities within health tech.

Besides I&C, companies such as NewIcon, Evondos and Zealand Care have all opened offices in Odense within 2017. They all mention the advantage of collaboration, network and science as the reasons for their choice of location.
