Investments surge in Odense as summer ends

While summer often signals a slowdown in activity, the recent wave of investments shows that companies in Odense have been anything but idle. A local startup has secured its first rounds of equity funding, and established businesses have made significant strides, solidifying Odense’s reputation as a hub of innovation and success. 

Unicontrol acquired by Spectra Precision  

Unicontrol, a rapidly growing Odense-based robotics company, has been acquired by Spectra Precision, an Ohio-based firm. This acquisition is expected to boost Unicontrol’s market presence and inject significant capital into Odense’s local ecosystem, benefiting investors like Kasper Hartvig Andersen, Zbigniew Ryszard Niemczyk, Ehsanullah Ekhlas, Thomas Visti Jensen, and Lasse Kiefer.

Unicontrol, named company of the Year by Odense Robotics, has transformed construction operations in 27 countries since its founding in 2018, with thousands of systems in use globally. 

Duroc Machine Tool acquires majority stake in Robot Nordic ApS  

In another significant move, Duroc Machine Tool, a major tool producer in the Nordic and Baltic regions, has acquired a 51% stake in Robot Nordic ApS. This Odense-based company specializes in developing fully automated production lines that integrate standard robots with custom-designed automation cells. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Duroc’s ability to offer advanced automation solutions and turn-key projects across Scandinavia and the Baltics.

Mewalii secures 1 million dkk in funding 

Mewalii, a startup founded by Simone Westergaard and Frederikke Dahl, focuses on creating safe and environmentally conscious period products.

The company has recently secured 1 million DKK in funding from Ulf Bech Christiansen, a biotech entrepreneur and angel investor known for his involvement in companies like PentaBase, Ubeamion, and Unest. Christiansen has acquired a 15% stake in Mewalii, backing their innovative hemp-based product.

Perspectives for Odense 

These recent developments underscore the resilience and innovative spirit of Odense-based companies. Despite challenging market conditions, they continue to attract significant investments from both local and international investors. The influx of capital, particularly from American investors, highlights Odense’s growing appeal as a business destination, with many companies choosing to expand their operations in the city. Unicontrol joins the likes of Purple Robotics, MiR & UR, which are part of our exit Hall of Fame & the founders are on their way to joining in on the reinvestment phenomenon, becoming part of the local investor group. As Odense continues to thrive, it is poised to remain a key player on the global innovation stage.
